CUIL Search Engine - Is CUIL got Success or Failure

CUIL Search Engine - Success or Failure

Recent buzz in search industry was about CUIL search engine, to some extent CUIL is considered as failure. I was in discussions about CUIL features, it's success & failure and what I think about CUIL as a Search Engine MarketingProfessional.

Well my initial thought about CUIL was same as now everyone is also talking about that CUIL is failure. CUIL was claiming that it has indexed more pages than GOOGLE in their database, but if you ask to user's everyone one willprefer GOOGLE over CUIL, Yahoo or any other Search Engine. You can track discussion over Interactive Marketing Blog "Why marketing Cuil as Google Killer a bad idea?" by Sampad Swain and over Startupmeme.com "CUIL made a fool of itself" by Sardar Mohkim Khan.

Here are the comments over "Why marketing Cuil as Google Killer a Bad Idea":-

Why Marketing "Cuil" as "Google Killer" a bad idea? - It will be very BAD idea, I had also checked for few resuls at CUIL comparing the results what they dispalyed with Google (No Doubt), Yahoo & MSN. To me CUIL seems zero to none.

I was not satisfied with the results they display and most of them were irrevelant with the kind of Query I searched for.

I agree they had indexed more url's than Google but still in algorithm & serving accurate listings they can never beat Google.CUIL looks attractive to eye but won't be able to solve the purpose of search.

Hey Afzal

Could not have agreed more on those points you just mentioned. Moreover CUIL claiming that they are better than Google in one way can be one the reasons for their demise in the future.

Reasons: OVER-PROMISE & UNDER-DELIVER

So you're right my friend. Right on the money!

But let's hope they come up with something better than they claimed!

Cheers!

Offcourse you can say I may be right from business point, but all these were views based on the kind of things which I look from any SE.

To me organic listing are most important and the score on which they assigned rankings. But CUIL is completely failure to my views.

Simply go to CUIL & Google search for "INDIA" and compare the results.

You can understand what a user or atleast SEO Professionals like me want to see at results.

Based on their SERP's results I can say CUIL is overhyped and is going to be failure.

Hi Sampad,

I think you should read what Google's Chief Economist thinks about search .. on my blog :D

Saurabh: I read and commented too on your blog. Few things are clear after the much hyped launch of CUIL, that it far away from what it promised. And as a marketer, didn't like the way they launched it except they gathered a lot of visibility and mass attention.Other than that, didn't nudge my expectation on any front to be precise. What's your thoughts on that?

This graph illustrates what many of us suspected — Cuil would be a flash in the pan. I doubt it can recover.

Cuil was total failure since when it was launch and it was able to grab attention just b’coz of so much hype. After launch when it was available people were getting the feeling that CUIL will fail and it seems it is drowning.

Between just after launch there was discussion over SAMPAD SWAIN blog (http://managementchords.blogspot.com/2008/07/why-marketing-cuil-as-google-killer-bad.html)

And here is my feedback comment about CUIL:-Why Marketing “Cuil” as “Google Killer” a bad idea? - It will be very BAD idea, I had also checked for few resuls at CUIL comparing the results what they dispalyed with Google (No Doubt), Yahoo & MSN. To me CUIL seems zero to none.

It’s hard to imagine Cuil doing anything but incremental changes to what Google’s done. And even that would take years of effort. Now, as an added obstacle, they have to deal with the backlash of making such gigantic claims about their search results.

Me.dium.com has taken a different tack. We have a full web index, but we change the results based on the surfing activity of our user base (now over 2,000,000). It’s in alpha, but I’d be curious to hear your thoughts. http://me.dium.com/search

Thanks for telling us about this, Jennifer. We’ll check Me.dium out asap. And for Cuil, I don’t think Google would be worried of losing the search market to anyone in the near future. They probably are THE website which might around a billion or more loyal followers, plus the time, skill and research they’ve done on search is far greater than their competitors, and they wouldn’t be sitting idle watching the competition struggle to beat them at their own game. I think if someone will better Google’s search, it’ll be Google itself.

Thanks for the comments. There is not much we can say as to how Cuil actually plans to BEAT Google, ‘bluff’ that’s all Cuil is about. I still recall they were all over Techmeme and it had a crashdown immediately. I guess they focused more at creating a hype over beating Google rather than going after improving the very basis of a search engine.
And as Imran has said, there is nothing coming close to beating Google than Google itself.

I will also close this post with statement by Imran - "No one can beat Google, by Google itself"

Website/Blog Rankings are back on track - Google SEO Expert

On Tuesday, July 29, 2008 - I written the post of complaining Google Algorithm for downfall in my personal website rankings. Till date to my experience in SEO industry I have not faced such fatal losening in rankings for any website either mine or my client's or my organisation in any Google Updates.

As shared I was also surprised of experiencing such beheavior from Search Engines (Google - for me Google is only SE which I concentrate on) and sudden fall in rankings. But I knew I am Google SEO Expert :-)

So good news is that - I got all of my rankings back in Google in just 2 days. Now what was the mistake which committed due to which all of my 6 month SEO work (for my personal website) in achieving rankings went off was.......I made the mistake at server end during my monthly maintenace, Since my website was down for 1 day Google Spider re-visited and index all those dead URL's which were accidently not available to them (due to 404 error). Just because of getting error from my hosting server (due to un-availibilty of webpages, Google has penalised me by throwing my website URL out of their SERP's.

Thank God, it was for 2 days only or you can say I messed up myself in finding the fault and error to my website code structure.

Today again, I checked for the google spider and found I figured out the loop hole and the error has been fixed.

Yippi Google spider has again indexed my site few hours ago, and all the rankings which I had lost are back on track with Bang!

Still it's a long way to go, but for few of my main keywords my website is againg showing at Number -1 positions in Google.com(US, UK & Universal) & Google.co.in (India)

Google SEO Expert(s) - 2nd & 9th Position in Google for Blog
Organic SEO Expert(s) - 3rd & 8th Position in Google for Blog
SEO/SEM Expert(s) - 1st Position in Google for website
Internet Marketing Professional(s) - 8th Position in Google for website
Online Marketing Expert(s) - 10th Position in Google for website
Professional Indian Blogger - 9th Position in Google for my website & 1st,2nd,3rd & 7th Positions for my Blogs.
Search Marketing Professional(s) - 7th & 8th Position in Google for website
SEM Expert(s) - 3rd & 5th Positions in Google for website
Ethical SEO Expert(s) - 3rd & 7th Position in Google for my Blog
Freelancer SEM Expert(s) - 1st Position in Google for website
Freelancer SEO Experts - 8th Position in Google for website
Search Engine Optimization Blog India - 1st Position in Google for Blog
SEO Blogs India - 8th Position in Google for Blog
SEO Experts Resumes - 2nd Position in Google for Blog
SEM Expert Resume - Top 6 Position for my website & blog in Google
SEO Consultants Resume - 1st Position in Google for Blog.
Effective Business Blog Marketing - 1st Position in Google for Blog.

There are about more than 100 keywords for which my personal website and Blogs are ranking in top 10 positions and for many in Top-30 positions, but I believe in getting ranked in top-10 positions & if possible to be at Number-1 position only.

I know any one can achieve such rankings if they apply SEO practices in a ethical & honest way, with some patience coz Search Engine Optimization (SEO) demands patience. SEO is not something where you apply it and see the immediate results and those who guarantee or claim to get ranked at number 1 positions, I don't know what to say about those SEO professionals or SEO firms???.....you can think off what they will do :-)

SEO Firm or SEO Experts those who try to achieve rankings using un-ethical ways (there are many ways and every one knows) and doesn't work according to Google Webmaster Guidelines or any search engine guidelines always land up getting banned their websites in SERP's.

Often SEO Experts hesitate to share keywords for which they had optimized there website, morever if an SEO Expert approaches organic & ethical search engine optimization practices, their work will speak over Search Engines. You will find there website/blog on frequent basis in organic search engine listings.

For me I believe there is no such thing to hide from anyone, it may be the keywords or my SEO approach. I don't mind sharing it, I believe it make's me more competitive, thrive me to horn my SEO skills more aggresively and creates a healthier competition among all SEO Experts.

Google SERP's Ranking Algorithm Result Updated - Top Rank SEO Blog

It was in news since April 2008 that Google is updating it's algorithm. I was keeping eye on the SERP's and haven't experienced such changes till date.

As a routine I check my blog/website rankings for my key targeted terms like "Search Engine Marketing Professional", "Internet Marketing Experts", "Online Marketing Experts", "SEM Expert", "SEO Experts", "Interactive Marketing Professional", "Ethical SEO Expert", "Google SEO Expert" and many more.

My Blogs/website were in Google.com top-30 positions and for few keyterms I was in Google Top-5 positions. Till yesterday evening I was doing good for all these keywords and was able to
maintain such rankings from last 1 year. But today surprisingly when I checked the rankings everything was up & down. I experienced the drastic downfall in my rankings.

On 16th July, 2008 Google Fellow Amit Singhal has explained the google ranking algorithm and after that it seems, Google was updating its Algorithm as results are varying drastically on Site Indexing as well as on keyword popularity beside the SERP result for particular site.

I am aware - Google constantly updates SERP's results, constantly indexed the URL's, content to improve the algorithm, but this time Google Update has made a bigger impact.

I know I will again regain the positions by closely analysing & implementing the latest algorithm updates. Overall current updated is more severe and willimpact the other business on larger scale.

I noticed discussion at many SEO Forums with people either complaining or praising a major shift in their rankings over the past 2 days. Major website owner's are complaining the same of loosing rankings to greater extent.

It's time to study in detail and apply SEO strategies with full force. I know Google is kind and will reward me again for my Ethical SEO practices.

Wish to achieve my rankings back as soon as possible.

If anyone else has also experience the same, do share your views, have you seen positive results or not.
